How Central Air Conditioners Help the Body

When the heat gets too much, the first thing you do is to find a solution to ease your discomfort. Some homes find the solution in central air conditioners.

Central air conditioners provide great cooling power to homes by incorporating two different coils, namely the evaporating coil and the condensing coil. This mechanism then cools down the entire home. This is what sets them apart from window air conditioners that only cool a single room.

Located outside the home, there is a separate cooling compressor from the fan unit, which blows cool air into the home. This outside unit contains a compressor, condensing coil, condenser fan, a grill, controls and two refrigerant lines. The grill protects anyone and anything that will come in contact with the fan blade, thus preventing any accidents that may happen.

The two refrigerant lines run from the compressor into the home to the evaporator coil.  The compressor starts the process by pumping refrigerate through the evaporator coil. Then, the furnace fan blows air through the coil. This is cooled by the refrigerant that was pumped by the compressor through the evaporator coil that absorbs the heat from the air. After the refrigerant cools the air, it flows back outside to the condenser coil, and at the same time, the heat that was absorbed by the evaporator coil is released. The refrigerant returns to a liquid form as it cools down. The refrigerant flow cycle will then continue.

Knowing how your central AC works is just the first step. To be able to continue keeping your home as cool to your heart’s content, one must be able to know how to keep them in prime condition.

Regular Maintenance

To keep the central AC working, regular maintenance is an absolute necessity. Replace filters with regularity, oil the fan motor, and keep the parts clean and free of debris. To oil the motor, turn the power off to the system and remove the fan cage, which holds the fan motor in place. The oil ports are set on the top of the motor, below the fan blade of the motor. Remove the oil plugs that protect the motor from debris. Oil each port with three drops of all-purpose, three-in-one oil. Spin the fan blade by hand to disperse the oil within the fan. Now, replace the oil plugs and wipe any excess oil that might have spilled. Repeat this process each season to ensure lubrication for your fan motor.

There are times when the weather is not just simply hot, but humid as well. On hot, but dry days, your sweat evaporates faster, and in turn, the heat in your body is easily released. But on humid days, you sweat more because your sweat evaporates slowly, thus less heat is released from your body. The less heat released, it feels so much hotter for the person on a hot, humid day.

Normally, the body temperature should be around 97°F (36.1°C) to 99°F (37.2°C). When you’re sick, it can go high as 100.4 F (38.0 C). To cope with changes in the temperature of the environment, the body will regulate its inner temperature. When the temperature is so high, the person will start to sweat. The sweat that the body will release will carry the heat and lets the water evaporate, thus cooling the body and lowering the inner temperature.

This is because the air is heavy with water vapor, which means it couldn't take any more water, much less your sweat. This aggravates the body because no heat is released through your sweat, which makes you sweat more. This is just one of the several effects of high heat and humidity on the human body.

Humidity and Its Effects

When humidity traps too much heat in the body and it can’t cool itself down, here are some things that can happen to you:

• Dehydration. Combat this by drinking more fluids during humid days. Make sure that you drink replenishing liquids, not ones chock-full of sugar.

• Fatigue. Your body gets too tired easily because it’s busy regulating its temperature. Air conditioning can help make you feel better.

The central air conditioning system is one of the many wonders that technology has brought to the world. These wonders range from simple things, such as mobile phones, to much more complex forms, like machineries and automobiles. Technology made communication easier, transportation faster, decreased production time of different manufacturing companies and many more.

Various forms of technology were made possible by the brilliant minds of inventors who strived to produce devices that made our lives easier, from the likes of advanced identification systems to upgraded and developed cooling and heating systems.

To keep up with the unpredictable weather and climate changes, the HVAC systems were products of technology that had been providing comfort to people and contributing to the increased efficiency in the workplace by providing a comfortable working environment.
